Organized by the Office of Councilor Leo “Happy L.A.” Avila II, the day-long activity is presented by San Miguel Corporation, in cooperation with MindaNews, Davao Sportswriters Association, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, Philippine Information Agency –XI, and Talomo Badminton Team.
The annual tournament is organized in honor of MindaNews photo editor Gene Boyd Rodriguez Lumawag who was slain in Jolo, Sulu on November 12, 2004 and who would have turned 29 on December 14.
The tournament is open to all bona fide media practitioners and employees of media institutions in Davao City. The tournament will have three categories: men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Players shall be paired by drawing of lots, right after the Opening Ceremonies. Pre-Pairing and swapping of game partners shall not be allowed.
Game officials will determine the appropriate scheme (single elimination, double elimination, round robin, etc.) depending upon the number of participating teams.
Cash prizes, trophies, and medals are at stake. (MindaNews)
