ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/20 January) – It was supposed to be a drug buy-bust operation, but aside from confiscating suspected shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride police also said they seized bomb-making components and guns.
Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, city police director, said the buy-bust operation was carried out by Police Station 9 operatives around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zone 3, Barangay Cawit, this city.
Casimiro identified the arrested suspects as Kadafy Wahi, 40, and his two brothers, Nurshdi, 36 and Abduraup, 32.
Casimiro said the arresting team seized from the suspects 25 kilos of ammonium nitrate, a 12-inch detonating cord, 120 pieces of blasting caps, five kilos of galvanized nails and caliber .38 and .22 revolvers with ammunition.
He said the operative also confiscated from the suspects 10 sachet of suspected shabu and P300 “marked money” in P100 bills.
He said the suspects were being investigated to know the extent of their activities.
Chief Insp. Rhean Loyd Bato, city police bomb squad chief said the seized bomb-making components are used to manufacture ammonium nitrate fuel oil-type of explosive.
The incident came two days after a barangay official was arrested for illegal possession of bomb-making components in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.
Arrested on Sunday was barangay councilor Bassal Turabin, 50, of Barangay Lagundi, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.
Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, Police Regional Office-9 information officer said Turabin was arrested at a checkpoint around 10 a.m. Sunday in Barangay A.L. Micubo, Jr., Siocon.
Samuddin said the policemen recovered from Turabin’s possession 10 detonating cords and 30 pieces of blasting caps. (MindaNews)
