Mindanao’s total trade hits $3.7B in 2007

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews/27 April) – Crude and coconut oil topped the list of Mindanao’s exports last year followed by banana and nickel ore.

Mindanao’s total trade last year reached  $3.746 billion last year, up by 24.62% from $3.005 billion in 2006, data from the Mindanao Economic Development Council released over the weekend showed.

Peace groups: “gov’t should appeal to Malaysia to stay”

ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/28 April) –  A Catholic priest who has served as parish priest in a town whose residents were displaced by war between government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) forces four times between 1997 and 2003 said government “should make a formal appeal to Malaysia to extend the tour of duty of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) for the sake of the people, the peace process and peace in general.”

Malacanang: “we accept and respect Malaysia’s decision”

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/27 April) – The Philippine government expressed its appreciation for Malaysia’s help in the peace process and says it ”respects and accepts their latest decision,” Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said in a press statement issued by his office.

Malaysia on Thursday announced a phased withdrawal of its contingent from the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao, starting May.

Bantay Ceasefire, Manila gathering ask Malaysia to stay

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/26 April) – More groups are appealing to Malaysia to reconsider withdrawing its military contingent from the International Monitoring Team (IMT) with the grassroots monitoring group  Bantay Ceasefire, saying all 650  of them volunteers, would kneel down if need be, “if only to convince the International Monitoring Team (IMT) to stay.”
