Mindanao coal plant now operational

VILLANUEVA, Misamis Oriental (MindaNews/08 January) — Despite opposition from environmentalists, the controversial Mindanao Power Plant is now online. Energy  Secretary Raphael Lotilla led the ceremonies marking the entry of 210 megawatts of electricity produced by the coal-fired power plant into the Mindanao grid.

Firm to set up coal plant in SouthCot

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews/08 January) – Encouraged by the success of the STEAG State Power Inc’s operation of a 210-megawatt power plant in Misamis Oriental,  a company eyeing huge coal deposits in a remote village of South Cotabato says it will likely establish a similar plant in the area in the near future.

New school for special children to open in Davao

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/08 January) — A new school for children with special needs will open here starting next school year. The Adaptive and Milestone Enrichment Fundamental School of Davao is expected to open in June 2007 at Marfori Heights Subdivision here. It will also offer a regular education program.
