KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 2 Aug) – The local government of Kidapawan City has released P11.27 million from its Special Education Funds (SEF) as subsidy for the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) collection and other school fees so that there will be absolutely “no collection” from the 38,000 students in public schools here.
The first release took place on Wednesday and would continue until August 6, according to City Mayor Joseph Evangelista, who also chairs the Local School Board.
Evangelista said the biggest recipient of the subsidy, which is equivalent to P300 per student, is the Kidapawan City National High School (KCNHS) with more than 8,000 students, followed by the Kidapawan City Pilot Elementary School (KCPES) with more than 5,000 students.
The mayor said that with the release of the subsidy, he wanted “no collection” at all from the students in all public schools in the city, a program he started in 2014.
On Wednesday, the mayor personally turned over the checks to school heads in simple ceremonies held inside their institutions, which was witnessed by parents and students. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
