SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews / 14 Dec) – A footage from a closed-circuit TV (CCTV) led to the identity of one of the suspects and his eventual arrest Wednesday in connection with the broad daylight shooting of a barangay captain here.
Operatives of the Surigao City Police Office arrested Rudy Montecer Arabis, driver of the motorcycle used in the slay attempt Sunday morning on Severo A. del Rosario, chairman of Barangay Rizal.
Del Rosario was on his way back home when the suspects shot him several times. He survived but was wounded on his shoulder.
Supt. Jay Baybayan, Surigao City police chief, led the arrest of the suspect after the victim positively identified him through an image from the CCTV.
During the arrest, police also seized a motorcycle, which was believed to be used as the getaway vehicle during the shooting incident.
Baybayan said the suspect had two companions – a gunman and an accomplice – who are still at large.
Baybayan said the victim also revealed that he received death threats from a certain Antonio Arana before the shooting incident happened.
