MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/17 January) – The low pressure area that has brought floods to several provinces in Mindanao has turned to Tropical Depression Agaton and is expected to make landfall in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA0 said.
In an advisory issued at 5pm Friday, PAGASA said Agaton was located 165 km northeast of Hinatuan at 4 p.
m. today and moving at 5 kph, with maximum winds of 55 kph near the center.
The weather disturbance will move to Region 12 on Sunday, the state-run weather bureau said.
PAGASA has raised public storm warning signal no. 1 in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Siargao Island, Dinagat Island, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Compostela Valley.
Caraga Region, Davao Del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, and Southern Leyte will have rains with gusty winds and moderate to rough seas, PAGASA said in its 5 p.
m. weather forecast.
A gale warning was raised in the seaboard of Caraga region with waves expected to reach at least 4 meters high.
Agaton will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in Northern Mindanao and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Other areas of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, PAGASA said. (MindaNews)
