BISLIG CITY (MindaNews/06 November) — A provincial board member of Surigao del Sur was gunned down just as he stepped out of the St. Joseph the Worker church in Forest Drive Village, San Roque, Bislig City at around 10 a.m. Sunday.
Rafael Masancgcay Viduya, 58, board member representing the 2nd district of Surigao del Sur, had just stepped out of the church where he attended mass and was on his way to his parked vehicle on the road fronting the church when two gunmen approached him and fired their cal.45 pistols at him, Police Supt. Ronel Jaurege, Bislig police chief, said.
The gunmen wore shorts and wore no mask or cap, he said.
Jauregue said Viduya was hit thrice in front — his right shoulder, the left side of his chest and his stomach — and twice at the back.
The gunmen then ran to the road where an accomplice was waiting on a motorbike. The three then sped off.
Jaurege said Viduya was among the first to step out of the church. He said investigators are gathering testimonies from witnesses and from the family to help them pursue the killers.
Viduya was rushed to the Andres Soriano Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. (Rona Alvizo/MindaNews contributor with reports)
