2 die, 2 hurt as 7 inmates bolt from Zambo Sur jail
Wounded were jail guard Noel Tadlas and Janeth Manangan.
The Army official said the seven inmates who escaped brought along with them two high-powered firearms and commandeered a vehicle.
The escapees were identified as Camarudin Subu, Roger Cañete, Badrudin Dimalunda, Sadam Dumandus, Tukan Guianale, Alex Abas Pacho, and Ronaldo Llanes.
Cabangbang said an investigation was underway to determine how the inmates managed to stage the jailbreak.
Soldiers, police and jail guards are now tracking down the escapees, he added.[]
According to the Zamboanga del Sur Police Office, two of the escapees were killed in a shootout 5:20pm with policemen from Pagadian City headed by Chief Insp. Michael Palermo. Killed were Ronaldo Llanes and Alex Abas Pacho.
Llanes was charged with estafa and Pacho with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Police identified those who are still at large as Camarudin Subu, Badrudin Dimalunda, Sadam Dumandus, Tukan Guianale, and, Roger Cañete.
Subu, Dumandus and Guianale were charged with murder, Dimalunda with carjacking, and Cañete with illegal possession of firearms.[]
The incident prompted the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to tighten the security measures at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center in this city, jail warden Senior Supt. Ester Pepito said.
Pepito said they have in their custody 61 high-risk detainees who are alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf and other kidnap-for-ransom groups.
He assured they have enough personnel guarding the detention facility. (MindaNews)
