(Statement of Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman on his new role as Deputy Speaker)
I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to our colleagues in the House of Representatives for the overwhelming confidence and the opportunity to serve as one of the deputy speakers of this esteemed chamber.
As we move forward with our new roles, rest assured that we will do our best to promote a legislative agenda that truly serves the people. We will work hard to enact laws that will not only have a significant impact on our respective constituencies, but to all Filipinos as well.
As a Mindanaoan, I will continue to champion the voice of Moros in the national leadership. Together with other like-minded members of this chamber, we will gather Moro leaders and establish a united front to address local security issues, such as violent extremism, terrorism and poverty, that all have a national impact. We will support the peace and development agenda in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, ensuring that the needs of the people in the region are met. We will make sure that the victims of the Marawi siege get what they deserve from the national government.
We understand that the only way to move forward is together, and that local issues have national, or even global, consequences. Again, thank you for this opportunity and let’s get to work.
