For the first time, puto bumbong, a delicacy common in the northern part of the country, is being sold during “simbang gabi” outside the St. Michael’s Cathedral in Iligan City.
It is made by steaming sticky rice encased in bamboo tubes and topped with butter or maragarine, grated coconut and brown sugar.
On their second day outside the cathedral on Tuesday (17 Dec 2013), these entrepreneurs had to stay as late as 7 a.m. even though simbang gabi ended at 5:30 a.m. because customers kept coming. They’ve been there starting 3 a.
