MANILA (MindaNews/21 January) — Something interesting happened on my way back to Manila from northern Mindanao. We were riding a van that took passengers along the Cagayan de Oro-Ozamiz-Dipolog route, on our way to Dipolog airport to catch the plane for Manila. As our van was about to the city limits, the officers manning a police checkpoint stopped us and asked the driver to go down. Before he went down, the driver murmured to me that this was expected, after all it was the holidays.
