Fifteen firearms and two rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers were confiscated from members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front while en route to Kapai for an MILF consultative meeting, said Col. Ramiro Alivio, commanding officer of 1st Marine Brigade. His unit operates in the two Lanao provinces,
"We will transfer the custody of the 15 confiscated high powered firearms and two RPGs of the Moro rebels to the International Monitoring Team at 2:00 pm today (January 19)," Alivio told MindaNews. The formal turnover would be held in Camp Ranao, Marawi City where the Marines are headquartered.
The transfer of custody of the firearms was under the directive of the national government and the Coordinating Committee for the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH). He said that said transfer will be part of the "close monitoring" work of IMT within the areas on some cases of peace agreements violations.
"This is also a public announcement that MILF rebels have committed violations against the agreement," Alivio stressed. (Violeta M. Gloria / MindaNews)
