MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/1 Apr) – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, as expected, did not admit before an inquiry conducted by the Commission on Human Rights that the summary killings of at least 800 suspected criminals in his turf since 1998 were state-sponsored. He even vowed to resign if an “iota of evidence” that he, the police, the military, or any local official had a hand in these incidents could be presented. The mayor, in effect, challenged doubters – including the CHR – to put up or shut up.

9 soldiers quizzed on Rebelyn Pitao killing deny allegations

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/01 April) –  Nine of the 13 soldiers named by a New Peoples Army (NPA) commander to be behind the March 4 “abduction, torture, rape and killing” of his 20-year old daughter, Rebelyn,  denied the allegations at the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) public inquiry late Wednesday afternoon.

CHR denies anew military’s request for closed door session

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/01 April) –  Having found “no new grounds” to change its earlier decision, the Commission on Human Rights denied this afternoon the Army’s motion for reconsideration and ordered the 10th Infantry Division chief to produce the soldiers named by the father of  Rebelyn Pitao to be behind her abduction-slay, at the CHR’s public inquiry on the “abduction, torture, rape and killing” of the 20-year old daughter of a New People’s Army commander.
