DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 28 June) — The Island Garden City of Sama (IGACOS).l has imposed a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew for minors under 18 years old following the killing of two minors inside a computer shop on June 23.
The curfew was imposed to prevent them against “accidents and other untoward incidents that usually happen during the nighttime.”
Executive Order 41, signed by IGACOS mayor Al David Uy and posted on the city’s Facebook page Wednesday evening, prohibits minors from loitering, straying or wandering between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
But there are a few exemptions: when the minor is accompanied by a parent or a guardian; if the minor is involved in emergency situations such as fire and disasters; if the minor is engaged in a deployment or school class and is on his or her way to go home; or the minor is attending a school, religious, or civic activity – provided the events are adult-supervised.
Police and barangay officials are directed to implement the order. Uy also stated that parents must also help ensure their children are already home before curfew.
Maj. Sheryl Bautista, IGACOS Police Station Acting Chief, said investigation is still ongoing on the killing of two teeners aged 14 and 16, inside a computer shop in Barangay Camudmud on June 23. A CCTV footage indicates there are two possible suspects.
A GMA News report said witnesses saw male suspects on board a black motorcycle without plate number at the crime scene.
Mayor Uy has also issued EO 40, imposing a “no plate, no travel” policy for those with cars, pick-ups, vans, trucks, tricycles and motorcycles without plate numbers. (Ian Carl Espinosa / MindaNews)
