MALUNGON, Sarangani (MindaNews / 10 June) – Police authorities were still probing Monday on who could be held liable in a road crash that killed two students and injured 10 others when the vehicle they were riding smashed the rear of a truck parked on a roadside in this town.
Those killed and injured were on their way home to Kidapawan City, North Cotabato, from a school fraternity event in Glan, Sarangani, when the mishap took place in Barangay Talus, this town shortly before noon on Sunday, said Arnel Pinggis, a leader of Malungon Rescue.
The commuter van had 12 passengers, including the driver and the rest of criminology students who attended a gathering of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity in Glan town.
Malungon police chief Lieutenant Colonel Geovanni Ladeo identified the two fatalities as Christian Cordero and Allen Peñero, both criminology students of Central Mindanao Colleges in Kidapawan City.
Malungon Rescue identified the injured as Kelly Domingo, 25; Roger Hunas Jr., 22; Kurt Asagra, 20; Ricky Diola, 21; Alden Magbanua; Vionel Lumogdang, 24; Erich Lumogdang, 28; Denver Rosite, 23; Nashryan Egkayogen; and, Zosimo Crispin, 22.
Two of the injured were in critical condition and being treated at a hospital in General Santos City, Pinggis told local broadcaster RMN Gensan on Monday.
He also noted an early warning device (EWD) was displayed near the truck, contrary to earlier reports that the truck, which was being repaired, had no EWD.
