CAGAYAN DE ORO (MindaNews / 3 January) — The detour road in Sitio Kipolot, Barangay Palacapao, Quezon town in Bukidnon will again be closed starting 4am Sunday, January 4, officials said.
The detour road lies next to an unpaved one-lane temporary artery for commuters and motorists traveling between Northern Mindanao and Davao City that was built after a landslide on October 18 last year that collapsed a portion of the highway in Kipolot.
Lyle Justin Egay, Quezon information officer said their municipal safety office received word from the contractor that they will close the four-lane detour road to all kinds of vehicles to finish the construction of a culvert across it.
Egay said the contractor did not say when the detour road will be passable again to all types of vehicles.
But Novie Cabrido, spokesperson for the Department of Public Works and Highways Region 10, said the detour road is scheduled to open by the second week of January 2026.
She said the 460-meter gravel detour road was opened to all types of vehicles, including buses and heavy container trucks.
She said it was opened upon the request of Quezon Mayor Pablo Lorenzo for the convenience of people going home for the holidays.
The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development in Region 10 said the fund for the concreting of the detour road would be requested from Congress.
