
DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 16 January) – The inflation rate in Davao Region rose to 2.2 percent in December 2025, up from 1.4 percent in November, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Davao.
Based on the Davao Region Summary Inflation Report released on Thursday, the rise in the region’s inflation was attributed to higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which registered the highest increase among commodity groups at 2.1 percent, up from -0.2 percent in November.
The main contributors to food inflation, according to the PSA-Davao, were increases in the prices of cereals and cereal products. Prices of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas, pulses, fish and other seafood, fruits and nuts also increased.
Aside from this, the health commodity group also increased to 5.2 percent in December, compared to 4.7 percent recorded in November, while clothing and footwear rose to 2.9 percent from 2.7 percent in the same period.
Among the region’s five provinces and one chartered city, Davao del Sur recorded the highest inflation rate at 3.5 percent in December 2025 from 2.1 percent in November. This was followed by Davao City at 2.5 percent, Davao Oriental at 2.
1 percent, Davao del Norte at 1.9 percent, Davao de Oro at 0.9 percent, and Davao Occidental at 0.8 percent.
The agency also reported that some commodity groups registered slower increments between November and December. For instance, alcoholic beverages and tobacco posted a slower rise at 3.7 percent in December from 4.2 percent in November, while housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels eased to 1.
5 percent from 2.2 percent during the same period.
Meanwhile, PSA-Davao said transport slowed at 0.5 percent in December from 1.9 percent in November; recreation, sport, and culture at 3.8 percent from 4.1 percent; and restaurants and accommodation services at 1.9 percent from 2.1 percent.
Sustained inflation was posted among the commodity groups of information and communication at 1 percent; education services at 8.1 percent; and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 4.1 percent.
The region’s December inflation is slightly higher than the country’s overall inflation rate of 1.8 percent.
Among the 18 regions in the Philippines, Central Visayas reported the highest growth at 3.8 percent, while the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao posted the lowest growth at -1 percent.(Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
