DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 31 December) — A motorcycle driver was injured while his wife was killed after being run over by a DCBus, owned by the local government of Davao, when she was thrown from the vehicle following a collision with a van along the Davao Coastal Road Tuesday evening, according to the Davao City Police Office.

In a report released on Wednesday, Capt. Hazel Caballero, spokesperson for DCPO, identified the victims as Recardo Marcellones, 37, the driver of the Yamaha motorcycle, and his 27-year-old wife Julie Sarah, both residents of Barangay Lizada, Toril District.
Caballero said that based on initial investigation, the victims were traveling on the outer lane of the coastal road from the Barangay Punta Dumalag toward Talomo when the motorcycle’s right handlebar struck the left side portion of the van.
She said the motorcycle’s driver and the passenger were both thrown off, but the passenger was run over by an incoming DCBus on the inner lane.
The DCBus was one of 10 Yutong ZK6126HG bus units owned by the City Government of Davao and deployed to aid the public mass transportation during peak hours.
She said the passenger was no longer breathing when paramedics arrived due to a severe head injury and was declared dead by the attending physician.
She said the driver of the DCBus is now under the custody of the police. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
