Coast Guard suspends sea travel between Surigao and Southern Leyte
The Philippine Coast Guard suspended on Tuesday the sea travel from Surigao City to San Ricardo and other ports of Southern Leyte due to strong winds and rough seas brought by a “low pressure area” approaching Mindanao.
Ensign Roy Christopher Orillaneda, station commander of the Philippine Coast Guard in Surigao City, said the order took effect at 9 a.m. and will continue as Surigao del Norte continues to experience bad weather.
Covered by the order are boats with 700 gross tonnage and below, Orillaneda said.
Classes suspended in Zamboanga City
Mayor Khymer Olaso suspended all classes in Zamboanga City on Tuesday due to heavy rains and thunderstorms brought about by a “low pressure area.”
Olaso also advised residents, especially those living in low-lying and coastal areas, to take precautionary measures.
Last Monday, 407 families were forced to evacuate after flash floods triggered by heavy rains hit Barangay TumaGa in Zamboanga City.
