Army on alert as CPP celebrates 56th anniversary
Army units in Northern Mindanao and Caraga went on high alert Thursday as the Communist Party of the Philippines marks its 56th founding anniversary.
Lt. Col. Francisco Garello Jr., spokesperson of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, said their battalions are on alert despite the fact that the New People’s Army no longer have active guerilla fronts in the two regions.
Garello said the NPA has been reduced to highly mobile squad units after the Army launched relentless operations in the two regions.
BARMM draws ₱4.7 billion in investments
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) drew investments worth ₱4.7 billion as of October 2024, exceeding its target of ₱2.6 billion by 180.8 percent.
BARMM Board of Investments Chair Mohamad Omar Pasigan said the significant investment growth by companies interested in agriculture, agribusiness, tourism and industrial services is expected to employ 382 workers in the region.
The companies investing in BARMM are identified as DALG Agro-industrial Corporation and DALG Oil Palm Corporation in Lanao del Sur; Bihing Talik Corp. in Tawi-Tawi; and AK Global Connect BPO OPC in Cotabato City,
‘From Arms to Arms’ program attracts 5,000 former rebels
The award winning farmers’ program “From Arms To Farms” has attracted 5,000 former combatants to leave their guerilla lives in exchange of a peaceful life as farmers in Kauswagan town, Lanao del Norte.
Kauswagan Mayor Rommel Arnado said their town have been peaceful since 2010 after they implemented the “From Arms To Farms” program cultivating 6,000 hectares of land employing sustainable agriculture and organic farming.
The town of Kauswagan has been devastated by years of conflict between Maranaos and Bisayan settlers since the 1970s and later on, by repeated attacks by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
