Anti-illegal drug authorities said the suspects in the July 20 P6.8 million drug bust in Iligan City have connections to big-time drug syndicates in Manila.
Benjamin Gaspi , Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 10 director, said the two suspects who hailed from Marawi City “are only henchmen” of the Manila-based criminal syndicates.
Gaspi said the one kilo shabu package with Chinese markings were transported by the suspects by land from Manila to Iligan City.
The seized illegal drugs is reportedly the biggest haul in Northern Mindanao this year.
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) authorities in Tawi-Tawi intercepted another boat loaded with suspected “halaws” or illegal immigrants bound for Sabah, Malaysia.
PCG Tawi-Tawi commander Chadley Salahuddin said they intercepted the group of eight “halaws” on board motorboat “Baby Marsilyn II” in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi’s capital.
He said the eight persons have been turned over to proper government agencies for disposition.
A speeding commuter van rammed into a tricycle along the Talayan-Cotabato highway in Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao del Sur killing a farmer and his six-year-old son on Monday, July 22.
Datu Anggal Midtimbang town police chief Lt. Salonga Langguyuan said the farmer’s wife, identified only as Baimen, and their two other children are in critical condition in a nearby hospital.
Langguyuan said the van driver identified as Khadafie Guiamaludin has been detained at the municipal police station.
