DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 09 July) — The city council here approved Tuesday morning an ordinance integrating the “Dabawenyo DCplinado” program to the educational curriculum in the city.
The ordinance, known as “Dabawenyo DCplinado for Future Generation,” is a joint collaboration between the city government of Davao and schools under the Department of Education – Davao City (DepEd-Davao).
The program aims to “integrate the concept of discipline for responsible citizenship in the basic education curriculum (BEC).”
For DepEd, basic education covers the current K-12 curriculum, which was enacted as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, also known as Republic Act No. 10533. This law was signed by the late President Benigno Aquino III on May 15, 2013.
The proponent, second congressional district Councilor Jonard Dayap, who also heads the committee on future generations, said the program will be integrated in the students’ values education, Araling Panlipunan, and Good Manners and Right Conduct subjects.
The ordinance mandates modules to include topics such as “civic responsibility and community engagement, respect for laws and regulations, cultural sensitivity and gender equality, personal discipline and ethical behavior, information and digital ethics, and environmental stewardship.”
Dayap said the city government will provide the human and material resources needed for the implementation of the program.
“Integrating the Dabawenyo DCplinado program into the DepEd curriculum can create a values-based learning environment, equipping both learners and educators with the skills needed to thrive in our increasingly complex 21st-century society,” Dayap said.
The program will be funded through the “special education fund,” he said. (Ian Carl Espinosa / MindaNews)
