DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 17 July) – Rescuers pre-emptively evacuated a total of 57 families or 282 individuals due to flooding caused by heavy downpour due to a low pressure area (LPA) on Tuesday evening, an official of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Davao said on Wednesday.
Ezzra James Fernandez, OCD-Davao information officer for operations, said that based on the initial report from the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DCDRRMO), the families who were pre-emptively evacuated came from barangays Buhangin Proper, Cabantian, Alfonso Angliongto Sr., Sasa, and Panacan.
He added that other barangays affected by the flooding included barangays Communal and Pampanga.
He said there was no reported damage due to the flooding incident.
Fernandez said that the heavy downpour on Tuesday was caused by the LPA, which is currently monitored within the Philippine area of responsibility.
“We are currently experiencing the effects of southwest monsoon but the LPA prevailed last night,” he said.
In a weather update posted at 8:18 a.m. Wednesday, the DCDRRMO said that the LPA remains as the prevailing weather system, which brings cloudy skies, affecting this city.
The agency said that chances of scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected.
It said that all river channels are monitored at code green or safe level. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
