Construction of houses for Masara landslide victims to start
The provincial government of Davao de Oro said on Monday that construction of housing units for the victims of the February 6 Masara landslide tragedy will start “soon” on a 1.6 hectare land in Barangay Panibasan, Maco town.
Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy said an initial P10 million would be released to jumpstart the first phase of the housing project that will 80 families from Barangay Masara.
The landslide left 98 people dead and eight others still missing.
Uy said the second phase of the project would benefit the remaining 47 families.
He said 127 families were impacted by the landslide.
The national government has earmark P35 million for the housing project.
US donates ‘anti-bomb’ robot
The United States donated an Explosive Ordnance Disposal robot to the Agusan del Sur police provincial office.
US Chief Master Sergeant Alexander Fazon Jr. said the local police can also use the light-weight robot for route clearing, checkpoints, and vehicle inspections looking for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) or bombs.
Fazon presented the EOD robot to police and local government officials of Agusan del Sur and demonstrated its capabilities in detecting bombs and to safely transport them to designated disposal areas last Monday.
Bukidnon airport to begin operations in Q3 2025
The Bukidnon airport in Barangay Maraymaray, Don Carlos town will start handling small turbo-prop airplanes in 2025, and would accommodate larger Airbus 320 jets in the third quarter of 2026, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.
CAAP Northern Mindanao manager Job De Jesus said they expected the P2.8 billion airport to start operations in the third quarter of 2025.
De Jesus said the airport is being completed by phases, now on Phase 2 involving the construction of embankment and apron areas to meet the parking requirement of aircrafts.
He said Phase 3 would focus on constructing the passenger terminal building, control tower and power plants.
