House members to visit Marawi on June 4
The Adhoc Committee on Marawi Compensation and Victim Compensation, led by House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, will visit Marawi City tomorrow (Tuesday), June 4.
Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong (1st District, Lanao del Sur) said Romualdez and the committee members will visit the Most Affected Area (MAA) and meet with residents who have complained about the alleged low appraisal payment by the Marawi Compensation Board at the Lanao del Sur Provincial Capitol gym.
Despite the passage of the Marawi Compensation Bill in 2023, thousands of displaced Marawi residents have yet to return and rebuild their houses inside the MAA.
900 grams of shabu seized in Davao checkpoint
Task Force (TF) Davao operatives seized 900 grams of shabu left by a passenger on a bus that stopped at the Lacson checkpoint in Calinan District, Davao City last week.
Colonel Darren Comia, TF Davao commander, said the unidentified passenger fled on foot after leaving a small box when the bus stopped to allow the passengers to alight for the required inspection at the checkpoint.
Comia said the incident caused a minor panic among the other passengers.
Navy intercepts P10.2 million smuggled cigarettes in Sulu
Navy patrol boats intercepted a boat laden with smuggled cigarettes worth P10. 2 million and arrested four of its crewmen in Patikul, Sulu last Sunday.
Commodore Francisco Tagamolila, Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) commander, said the two Navy boats from Naval Task Force 61 intercepted the suspects some two nautical miles northeast of Mauboh village in Patikul town.
Tagamolila said that upon inspection, it was found out the cigarettes came from neighboring Indonesia.
The boat was brought to the Naval headquarters in Calarian, Zamboanga City.
The NFWM has intensified its campaign against smuggling, an activity it describes as an “economic sabotage.”
