DOT-10 opens historical trail in Cagayan de Oro
The Department of Tourism-Region 10 (DOT-10) has launched the “Cagayan de Oro Historical Trail Walkthrough,” which covered the historical sites in the city.
The trail will start at the wooden cross in front of the St. Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral in downtown Cagayan de Oro.
The cross, erected in 1888, is now encased in concrete but part of it can still be seen, according to the Cagayan de Oro Historical Commission.
Marie Elaine Unchuan, DOT-10 regional director, said the trail also included the “Birhin sa Kota” at Duaw Park, where the ruins of the original walls of the old encampment of Cagayan de Oro still stand.
The other historical sites in the trail are the water tank built in 1922, which now houses the City Museum; the City Hall or Casa Real, which was constructed in 1940 where city officials now hold office; Xavier University Museo de Oro; Capitol University Museum of Three Cultures; and, the Makahambus Cave in Barangay Lumbia .
Suspect in death of 3 in Bukidnon post-Valentine disco party nabbed
Police in Damulog town, Bukidnon arrested the suspect of a stabbing spree that killed three persons during a post-Valentines disco party last Friday night.
Captain Charlon Sevilla, Damulog police chief, identified the suspect as Jeffrey Decalan, alias “Alik,” who was arrested in Barangay Maican in Damulog town.
Sevilla said Decalan allegedly knifed to death Junjun Requestosa, a certain Regan, and Apple during a post-Valentines disco party in Barangay Maican.
He said the suspect had an altercation with the victims who later ganged up on him.
