DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 12 February)— The son of designated Maguindanao del Norte Governor Abdulraof Macacua has been appointed as member of the parliament of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) after his father vacated the post when he assumed as governor of the new province.
The appointment of Jamel Balang Macacua, 33, came out last January 26, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Raby Angkal, secretary-general of the Bangsamoro Parliament, said they received on February 6 a memorandum from the office of BTA Speaker Pangalian Balindong acknowledging the appointment of the younger Macacua as new member of the parliament.
Angkal said in a phone interview there was no information yet what committees MP Macacua will hold or be part of, but added that he has started working in office in the Bangsamoro government compound.
The younger Macacua used to serve as official of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE-BARMM) before his new appointment.
Gov. Macacua used to serve as Senior Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao while also serving as a member of the parliament.
He resigned from his Bangsamoro regional posts after he was appointed on April 5, 2023 by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as officer-in-charge of the newly created Maguindanao del Norte province. (Ferdinandh Cabrera / MindaNews)
