DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 16 December) – Police authorities reported no untoward incidents at the churches in Davao City on the first day of the traditional Misa de Gallo on December 16.

Capt. Hazel Tuazon, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson, said on Saturday that the city is “generally peaceful” amid the heightened alert status imposed to maintain peace and order as well as to ensure the safety of mass goers attending the dawn masses from December 16 to 24.

She said based on the reports from all police stations in the city, mass goers cooperated with the strin gent security measures implemented in the churches by authorities.[]/a> with []/a> with |||

The DCPO, in a statement, urged the public to “refrain from spreading fake news that may disturb public peace and order” in the city after information of alleged bomb threats following the bombing incident at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City last December 3 circulated on social media recently.

It said malicious dissemination of false information such as alleged bomb threats against the city is punishable under the law.

Police Major Catherine dela Rey, Police Regional Office-Davao spokesperson, said during Kapihan sa Philippine Information Agency-Davao on Friday that around 5,000 security personnel, composed of 2,700 police officers, 800 auxiliaries, and 1,500 volunteers from different groups, are being deployed in churches in the region.

She said they anticipate a huge attendance during the Misa de Gallo. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
