MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews / 5 December) – Classes in all public elementary and high schools in Cagayan de Oro City have been ordered suspended on December 5 and 6 for the conduct of rapid assessment of school buildings after the Magnitude 7.4 earthquake that hit Caraga Region and other parts of Mindanao on December 2.
In Executive Order No. 401 issued on Monday, City Mayor Rolando Uy said the assessment will be done by the Cagayan de Oro Earthquake Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Team.
The order also encouraged private elementary and secondary schools to conduct their own rapid assessment by qualified professional civil engineers and submit their findings to the team.
The epicenter of the December 2 tremor was located east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. Hundreds of aftershocks have been recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. (MindaNews)
