KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/ 12 September) – A 15-year old high school student in Matalam town in North Cotabato was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman, around 11:45 am Tuesday, police said.
Killed was MJ Mayo Balbalusa, Grade-9 student at the Malamote National High School and a resident of Purok-4, Barangay Lower Malamote, Matalam.
The Matalam municipal police station said Balbalusa was on his way home after buying viand for their lunch in Central Malamote when the gunman attacked him.
The victim sustained gunshot wounds in his head and was rushed to Midway Hospital in the town proper but was declared dead on arrival.
Investigators led by SPO3 Noel Narciso of the Matalam police recovered from the crime scene two slugs of a caliber .45 pistol.
Police has yet to establish the motive but they believed it was a case of mistaken identity.
Family members and relatives said Balbalusa was not involved in the illegal drug trade.
