DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 10 July) – “I am overwhelmed. I am at a loss for words.”
Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said this after she made the top 12 possible senatorial bets based on the result of Pulse Asia’s June 2018 Nationwide Survey on the May 2019 senatorial elections released on Monday.
The list of probable winners also consisted of incumbent and former members of Congress.
Conducted from June 15 to 21, 2018 on 1,800 registered voters, Duterte obtained a 46.
2-percent level of support, ranking 3rd to 5th.
Former Philippine National Police chief Ronaldo dela Rosa, who was appointed chief of the Bureau of Corrections, got 37.7 percent and ranked from 5th to 12th places out of 58 possible senatorial candidates.
Duterte was close behind reelectionist Senator Cynthia Villar who garnered 50.1 percent voter preference, with a statistical ranking of 3rd to 4th places.
Senator Grace Poe topped the poll with voter preference of 67.4 percent; former Senator and now Taguig City Representative Pia Cayetano placed 2nd with 55.
7 percent; and Senator Juan Edgardo Angara (41.9 percent) ranked 4th to 8th places.
According to Pulse Asia, other probable winners if the May 2019 senatorial elections were held during the survey period are former Senator Jinggoy Estrada (37.9%), and Senator Aquilino Martin Pimentel III (37.7%), all of whom are ranked 5th to 12th; Senator Nancy Binay (37.1%, 6th to 12th places), former Senator Sergio Osmeña (36.6%), former Senator Lito Lapid (36.2%), and Senator JV Ejercito (35.6%), who all have a statistical ranking of 6th to 13th places; and opposition Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino (32.1%), who is ranked 10th to 16th.
It said only 4.8 percent of Filipinos are not inclined to support any of those listed in the senatorial probe.
Presidential appointees and members of President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s cabinet whose names have been floated to run under the administration’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) such as former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman and now Presidential Adviser Francis Tolentino and Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go ranked 23rd to 31st places (both obtained 9.9%); Karlo Nograles (8.4%), 24th to 33rd; and Presidential Spokesperson Harry S.
