DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 03 June) — Thirteen workers of a coconut processing plant were killed while four others were injured when their utility vehicle collided with a 10-wheeler truck at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday in Sitio Lantawan, Barangay Astorga, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
In a report, Police Regional Officer (PRO) 11 spokesperson Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz said the overspeeding vehicle owned by Franklin Baker Co., which runs a coconut processing plant in the province, overshot to the opposite lane while navigating a curve along the national highway and crashed into an approaching truck driven by Efren Pesores.
Police identified the slain victims Jonathan Dadong, Niña Itchon, Jayson C. Tusan, Recmar Bautista, Maria Fe Regino, Roy Pleños Itchon, Joel Cedeño Durson Adlog, Rannie Cabal, Alfredo Beringuel, Vicente Sanico, and one unidentified person while Ron Gie Rada died on the way to the hospital.
Driz said Teodoro Onido Batiocan, the driver of the Franklin Baker vehicle, is in the custody of the Sta. Cruz police station.
Abenjie Lumanta, Ariel Entero Caña, Aixa Puna and Pesores were rushed to the provincial hospital in Digos City where they were treated for injuries. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
