DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 05 May) — President Rodrigo Duterte promised principals on Friday that they will be the next sector to receive a higher pay.
“Kayo ang sunod” (you’re next), Duterte said, but with a caveat: when the economy improves, and it will be incremental.
“Remember, the economy. Pag nag-improve ‘yan, kayo ang sunod. Honest,” Duterte said Friday afternoon at the 37th Philippine Principals Training and Development Program and National Board Conference at the SMX Convention Center Friday afternoon.
The President siad the increase will be incremental bedcause “Marami kayo.
You are five times more or seven times more than the soldiers.”
Duterte, whose mother Soledad was a teacher who retired as the adult education supervisor for Davao City, said he is working on building a strong economy because “that’s the only way.”
He said he increased the salaries of the military first “because I was already expecting a bloodbath.”
Having been mayor of the city for 22 years, Duterte said that even during the campaign for President in 2016, he knew Mindanao was headed for trouble that’s why he vowed to double the salaries of soldiers.
He said what he feared came true when the ISIS-inspired Maute Group and its allies laid siege on Marawi.
The President assured the teachers they would be the next to receive higher pay “pero hindi naman masyadong doblado, hindi talaga kaya. Hindi talaga kaya” (but not double because we can’t afford it. We can’t).
He said the economy must be improved to solve the problem.
“The entire nation must be in unison kasi ho the only source of income of the government is taxes…”(MindaNews)
