KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 27 January) — Unidentified gunmen shot dead a village executive and his buddy while on their way home in Carmen, North Cotabato, around 11 p.m., Friday, a police official said.
Superintendent Bernard Tayong, spokesperson for the Cotabato Police Provincial Office (CPPO), identified the victims as Renato Ortiz, chair of Barangay General Luna in Carmen, North Cotabato and Reynaldo Nobleza, also a resident of Barangay General Luna.
Tayong said the victims were on board a motorcycle and on their way home when waylaid at Sitio Tapulon, Barangay General Luna.
Robbery is believed to be one of the motives behind the killing, according to Tayong.
Reports reaching Carmen Police said the sling bag of Ortiz containing 100,000 pesos was missing. An investigator said Ortiz earned the amount from selling their crops at the town center.
Tayong said Ortiz sustained eight gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, while Nobleza had nine wounds. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
