COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/04 May) – Twenty grassroots groups in two provinces in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao have vowed to support the reelection bid of Regional Governor Mujiv Hataman.
Bobby Benito, convenor of the Grassroots Movement for Peace and Responsible Governance, said the group decided to stick with Hataman for his consistent support to the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
“Despite the BBL’s failure to become a law under this administration, we witnessed how Hataman fought for it up to the end. He is still with us in our quest for a better Bangsamoro,” Benito said.
He said the group arrived at the decision [to support Hataman] after a series of consultations and meetings with different communities.
“Our fear is that it (BBL) might not be the priority of other candidates if they will be elected,” he said, adding Hataman had offered to step down had the BBL been passed before the filing of certificates of candidacy.
The group represents different grassroots organizations from Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, including the cities of Cotabato and Marawi.
