ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews / 17 Feb) – A radio broadcaster in the municipality of Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur was shot to death Tuesday evening, according to the National Union of Journalism in the Philippines (NUJP).
In an emailed statement, NUJP chairman Ryan Rosauro said that Elvis Ordaniza, in his 50s and a reporter for radio station dxWO Power99 FM based in Pitogo, suffered two bullet wounds in his chest from a caliber .45 handgun.
According to colleagues, Ordaniza, a rebel returnee, had been reporting about the problem of illegal drugs and illegal gambling in Pitogo, the NUJP reported.
He was reportedly preparing dinner at his home in Purok Bagong Silang in the Poblacion when shot.
The Zamboanga del Sur provincial police office has yet to determine if the killing is related to the May elections.
