DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/19 May) – At least 11 persons were injured when a 10-wheeler truck from Kitaotao, Bukidnon rammed into at least 14 vehicles along the national highway in Calinan district late Sunday afternoon.
Calinan Police Chief Inspector Randy Sambalod told Mindanews Monday that nobody died contrary to information spread over social media.
The victims, including a 10-year-old, are currently confined at the Southern Philippines Medical Center here, Sambalod said.
He said two of the wounded persons were taken to the intensive care unit but are now in stable condition.
He identified the victims as Teddy Ebora, Danilo Ebora, Abelino Dollano, Froilan Tenchavez, Gerald Alfeche, Armando Matiga, Lyle Gicaro, Jayson Moreno, Marimel Raches, Ronald Sobio and Roselyn Abad.
PO2 Joseph Gumtang, radio operator of the Calinan Police Station told MindaNews that truck driver Cirilo Dorado Icoy claimed he lost his brakes that led to the accident near the NCCC shopping center in Calinan’s centro shortly before 6 p.m.
The truck hit 14 vehicles, mostly motorcycles, and pedestrians.
Sambalod said Icoy tested negative for liquor.
