ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/20 February) – Six gunmen seized a businesswoman late Wednesday in this city, the police reported.

Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca, Police Regional Offie-9 information officer, identified the victim as Sabrina Ikbala Voon, 28, a dealer of cosmetic products.

Huesca said Voon was seized 8:56 p.m. Wednesday at Calle Pohoc in Barangay Mercedes.[]

Huesca said the kidnappers managed to gain entry into Voon’s compound when her mother, Isabel, opened the gate as one of the gunmen knocked.

One of the gunmen pistol-whipped Isabel when she fought back as they tried to grab her nine-year-old grandson.[]

The gunmen seized Voon and forced her to board a white van when she came to the aid of her son and mother.

Huesca said Police Station 4 personnel led by Senior Insp. Helen Galvez pursued but lost track of the kidnappers.[]

Huesca said the getaway vehicle with plate number GPH-851 was recovered by the pursuing policemen in Sitio Gapuh, Barangay Talabaan.

The kidnappers were believed to have fled using a motorized banca since the getaway vehicle was recovered near the shore of Talabaan.

Further investigation showed that the getaway vehicle turned out to have been rented from a local rent-a-car firm.

The vehicle owner, Ignacio Curambao, said his van was rented by a certain Ryan Cuevas Santos, 24, of Tumaga village, this city.

Huesca said they have launched a rescue operation in coordination with the military. (MindaNews)
