DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 10 Nov) — Catholic and Protestant bishops and Muslim Ulama will gather in Zamboanga City on November 12 to 14 for their 41st General Assembly and to visit the areas affected by the standoff between government forces and the Moro National Liberaiton Front (MNLF).
The BUC began as a Forum in 1996, to provide the “faith dimension” in the peace process between government (GPH ) and the Bangsamoro revolutionary fronts. Its first organizational meeting was held in Cebu City on November 29, 1996. “As spiritual leaders they will ascertain the truth of the violent skirmishes and its horrifying casualties. They will then reflect on the situation in relation to the peace process and the responses of the central Government,” a press release from the Davao City Herald said.
“Through prayer they will discern on their immediate role particularly in the present situation in Zamboanga and generally in the peace process in Mindanao and around the country.”
The BUC is behind the annual Mindanao Week of Peace (MWOP), an activity inspired by the Zamboanga Week of Peace.
This year’s MWOP theme is “Dialogue and Hope: Our Key to Peace.” In Zamboanga, the theme is “Heal our land.” (MindaNews)
