COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/11 August) – A grenade was lobbed Saturday night on a street near a department store where a Marine detachment is located but Senior Superintendent Rolen Balquin, the city police chief, said it did not explode.
Balquin said the suspects lobbed the grenade from an unlit portion some 200 meters away at around 8 p.
m.
The grenade landed along Dona Blanco Martinez Street beside Superama Department Store where the Marine Battalion Landing Team 1 detachment is stationed.
“We immediately requested EOD team to conduct safety procedure of defusing the explosive”, Balquin said.
Superama security guard Ricky Custodio said, he noticed some men running after the grenade-throwing.
“I thought it was just a stone thrown but I found out it was a grenade so we immediately asked assistance from the authorities,” he said.
On Monday, August 5, a powerful bomb rigged to a vehicle exploded along Sinsuat Avenue just as the convoy from City Hall of City Administrator Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, was passing.
