ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/13 July) – Two employees of a mining firm were shot dead by a lone gunman Friday while a teenager was hit by a stray bullet late Friday in a remote barangay, this city, the police reported Saturday.
Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-9 identified the fatalities as Felipe Nepomoceno and Romel Dayrit, both employees of Atro Mining.
Huesca said the wounded teenager was identified as Jaypee Joven, 16, who was hit in his foot.
The mining firm belongs to the Dubai-based Atro Group, which is primarily engaged in investments, import and export and trading of commodities.
Atro Mining has entered into an Exclusive Mines Operation Agreement with Hard Rock Mineral Trading, Inc. for its Mineral Production Sharing Agreement covering an area of 2,000 hectares in Barangay Vitali, this city.
Huesca said the victims were eating dinner in an eatery around 8 p.
m. Friday in Sitio Mialim, Barangay Vitali when the assailant, driving a motorcycle, arrived.
He said the gunman approached the victims after disembarking from his motorcycle and repeatedly shot them.
He said the suspects sped off towards nearby Barangay Tictapul. (MindaNews)
