CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (MindaNews/25 April) —A government-contracted cargo company delivered Wednesday night 360 sealed boxes containing the official ballots for Cagayan de Oro’s 277, 931 voters.
Officials of the City Hall’s Finance Department received the ballot boxes delivered to their office by a van and a 10-wheeler truck operated by cargo company Air 21.
Workers took turns hauling the boxes into a storage room of the City Finance Department, where it will be stored and distributed on May 13 for the national midterm and local elections.
Ramon Antonio Mendoza, of the election secretariat of the City Treasurer’s Office, said the storage room for ballot boxes will be padlocked and will not be opened until dawn of election day.
“The storage room will be constantly under guard by two policemen,“ Mendoza said.
On early dawn of May 13, Mendoza said the boxes will be taken out for distribution to the teachers and Board of Election Inspectors overseeing the elections in the city’s 360 clustered precincts.
He said the boxes will be delivered first to the 10 district government schools, urging the teachers and BEIs assigned there to be early.
