SSS launches AlkanSSSya Program in Zambo
Under the program, De Quiros said a large metal cabinet with individual compartments that stores the AlkanSSSya participants’ daily savings, which would then be collected monthly by SSS account officers and credited towards the members’ SSS contributions.[]
“We came up with the program to enable them to save money for their SSS monthly contributions. They might end up spending to buy other things if they will keep their money at home,” he explained.
He said they have come up with the program to enable those in the informal sector to become members of the SSS.[]
Among the targeted informal sectors in the implementation of the programs include association of tricycle or public utility jeepney operators and drivers, farmers’ association, market vendors’ association, fisher folks and others.
As of December 2012, De Quiros said the SSS had signed up 49 informal sector groups, totaling over 11,000 potential members to join the AlkanSSSya Program with 27 groups lined up for accreditation.
De Quiros said they have required each of the SSS branches to register at least two associations into the AlkanSSSya Program this year.
Lawyer Rodrigo Filoteo, SSS Vice President for Western Mindanao, said they initially intend to register the canning factory workers and habal-habal operators and drivers into the program. (MindaNews)
