ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/29 December) – Some P700,000 worth of firecrackers confiscated by authorities in the different parts of Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9) were destroyed by the Firearms, Explosives, Security Agencies and Guard Section-9 (FESAGS-9).
Chief Insp. Mark Azur, FESAGS-9 chief, said the confiscated firecrackers were destroyed by burning on Thursday at the city government-owned dumpsite in Barangay Lumbangan, this city.
Azur said the seized firecrackers, comprising of at least 100 boxes, were placed in a big pit before it was set on fire.
Azur said that they confiscated some of the destroyed firecrackers in the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte.
They confiscated the firecrackers since they are being sold without the required permit from Camp Crame, Azur explained.
Others were intercepted by Philippine Coast Guard elements aboard passenger-cargo vessels for lack of permit, he said.
Camp Crame, headquarters of the Philippine National Police, issues a permit to sell to a firecracker dealer, while retailers can secure a permit from the regional police command, Azur explained. (MindaNews)
