MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/11 December) — The law office of lawyer Michael Ajoc was strafed early dawn today by unknown gunmen, Carlos Isagani Zarate, secretary general of the Union of People’s Lawyers in Mindanao (UPLM) said.
Ajoc is UPLM Dipolog vice chairperson and president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines in Zamboanga del Norte,
Zarate quoted Initial reports that Ajoc’s office bore seven bullet holes, six hitting its glass window and one at the door.
His office is located at Tomas Claudio Street in downtown Dipolog City.
“Ajoc is now seeking refuge after the attack in his office and has, in the meantime, refrained from answering texts and calls. He believes, though, that the strafing is clearly intended to harass him after he extended legal assistance to a local police officer,” Zarate said in a statement.
The police officer was allegedly physically assaulted by his superior, City Police Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Maclang, he said.
Zarate, however, added the local police office was yet to issue its official report.
He said the UPLM “strongly condemns this blatant attack on Atty. Ajoc and seeks immediate action from the authorities.” (MindaNews)
