ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/8 December) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has dismissed from service eight policemen, including an officer, in Region 9 after they tested positive for drug abuse, a top police official disclosed.
Chief Supt. Mario Yanga, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) deputy director for administration, said they were charged with grave misconduct after they were found positive for shabu use.
Yanga said it was discovered that the eight policemen were using prohibited drugs when the command conducted a surprise random drug test on all of its personnel.
He said the dismissed officer, a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy, and one of the seven terminated policemen belong to the Regional Public Safety Battalion-9. The others were from the Zamboanga del Norte police provincial office.
Yanga disclosed that the dismissed police officer even appealed for reconsideration but it was turned down since the dismissal order signed by PRO-9 director Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles is already final.
Last month, three policemen were also dismissed from the service for the same offense.
They were assigned in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte. (MindaNews)
