MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/5 Aug) – The Bukidnon Photographers and Bloggers Society (BPBS) has scheduled to map up Malaybalay City on August 25 to correct information on the city in Google maps.
“As observed, Malaybalay City in Google Maps is severely lacking in information and even inaccurate, and because of this the Bukidnon Photographers and Bloggers Society intends to correct this through Google Mapmaker,” said Engr. Bonzeti Panganiban, BPBS president.
The group has invited representatives from the tourism and business sectors, and non-government organizations in the city for the one-day map up event in The Veranda from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They have expected at least 25 participants and five personnel from Google
Panganiban said they intend to give correct and accurate information on the city and add places of interest like local restaurants, cafés, schools and other establishments.
The new map will give driving and walking directions to tourists visiting the city. The bloggers and photographers intend to integrate in the map valuable information to emergency respondents in the event of disaster.
A map maker gives users the ability to edit Google Maps location data from phone numbers to adding roads, streets and others that do not appear on the map, Panganiban cited a description of the Google Mapmaker editing application.
The feature also enables users to plot out walking and riding paths to improve directions for hiking and biking.
Panganiban told MindaNews the map up is the first of several batches they are organizing. (Walter I. Balane / MindaNews)
