GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews / 4 Aug) – For the second straight year, the General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) was adjudged by the Philippine National Police (PNP) as the country’s “best city police office.”
Senior Supt. Cedrick Train, city police director, said Friday the accomplishment was based on the unit’s “outstanding performance” in overall operations last year as evaluated and validated by the PNP central office.
“We’ve worked hard for this and we will make sure that we our operations and cooperation with local stakeholders will continue at this level,” the official said.
Train said the city police bested top contenders Iligan City and Santiago City for the annual award, which was announced in an official memorandum dated July 31 issued by the office of PNP Director General Nicanor Bartolome.
A team from the PNP central office conducted the field evaluation and validation here for the best city police office award last July.
The team was composed of PNP Director for Intelligence Chief Supt. Diosdado Ramos, Senior Supt. Dennis Siervo, Senior Supt. Ericson Velasquez and Senior Supt. Leo Marzan.
The team conducted a series of evaluation and validation on different fields of concern based on the requirements being established for the award.
Aside from its operational accomplishments, the city police office was cited by the PNP for launching community-oriented programs, among them the weekly marathons that were aimed at raising awareness in the area on various causes.
Earlier this year, the city police adopted the PNP’s e-blotter program as part of its enhanced computerization initiative.
Train is set to receive the award during the 111th Police Service Anniversary Celebration on August 8 at the PNP Multi-Purpose Center (Main Hall), Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The anniversary celebration and awarding rites will be graced by President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, who was invited as main guest of honor and speaker. (Allen V. Estabillo / MindaNews)
