BUTUAN CITY (MindaNews/15 June) – A police officer and his wife were killed on Tuesday evening when the motorbike they were riding rammed the rear portion of a ten-wheel truck parked along the national highway in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur.
The victims were identified as Inspector Rogelio Sarsaba,33, resident of Buenavista, Agusan del Norte and his wife, Sheryl, 32, an employee of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit.
A report reaching the police regional office here said Sarsaba was currently undergoing the police field training program in Bayugan City.
It said the victims were heading to Butuan when they bumped the unmoving truck. The accident occurred around 7:30pm on June 12 in Purok 1, Canayugan, Bayugan City.
It added that when Sarsaba tried to veer off from the parked truck another vehicle approached from the opposite direction prompting him to return to his lane. He lost control however and the motorbike smashed into the rear portion of the vehicle.
The truck driver, Ricardo Rante, a resident of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur voluntarily surrendered to Bayugan City police station.
